The Institute of Geology Malaysia (IGM) was officially registered in 1989 (PPM-003-14-11031989). IGM was established to create a unified professional body to regulate and advance the geology profession in Malaysia. To serve as the leading reference institution for the professional development of geologists in Malaysia.
To provide a dedicated platform for enhancing technical skills, professional competencies, and Continuous Professional Development (CPD) among members.
To foster intellectual and professional interaction among geologists while building strategic partnerships with related professions, government agencies, industry players, and the general public.
To support regulatory efforts and strengthen the integrity, standards, and reputation of the geological profession in alignment with current laws and codes of conduct.
To promote and expand the application of geological knowledge, research, and practices for the benefit of national development and the well-being of society.

IGM members are recognized by professional designations: Geo., F.I.G.M. (Fellows), M.I.G.M. (Members) These titles denote a registered geologist in Malaysia who is bound by the IGM Rules of Professional Conduct. The Council maintains the right to enforce these codes to ensure the highest professional standards in the industry.
