The Institute of Geology Malaysia (IGM) Council convened its first meeting for the 2026/2027 session on 27 August 2026, bringing together Council Members in person and online to establish the direction and priorities for the new term.

During the meeting, the Council confirmed the portfolios and responsibilities of its committees, covering professional development and training, industry and corporate relations, young geoscientist engagement, welfare, sports and community initiatives, as well as international relations.

The Council also discussed a range of proposed initiatives for the coming session, including professional training programmes, university engagement, mentoring between senior and emerging geoscientists, member recognition, corporate partnerships and community outreach. Preparatory efforts concerning IGM’s potential involvement in the International Geological Congress 2032 were also considered.

These initiatives reflect IGM’s continued commitment to supporting its members, strengthening professional connections and expanding the contribution of geoscience to industry and society.
