The Institute of Geology Malaysia (IGM), in collaboration with the Department of Mineral and Geoscience Malaysia (JMG) and Lembaga Urus Air Selangor (LUAS), successfully organised the 2nd Selangor Surface Water and Groundwater Abstraction Management Seminar 2026 (SABPS 2026) on 29 September 2026 at Bangi Resort Hotel.
The seminar was also supported by Kelab Sukan dan Kebajikan Lembaga Urus Air Selangor (KSK LUAS), Kelab Sukan dan Kebajikan Jabatan Mineral dan Geosains Selangor/Wilayah Persekutuan (Kelab JMGSWP), and Digital Geoscience Global Sdn. Bhd. (DGeG).
Carrying the theme “Integrated Water Resource Management: Addressing Challenges, Exploring Opportunities”, SABPS 2026 provided a platform for government agencies, regulatory bodies, licence holders, industrial users and members of the geoscience community to exchange knowledge and perspectives on sustainable water-resource management.
The event was officiated by Puan Haslina Binti Amer, A.I.S., representing Y.B. Dato’ Ir. Izham bin Hashim, Selangor State Executive Councillor for Infrastructure and Agriculture.
The seminar highlighted the relationship between surface water and groundwater within the hydrological cycle, the current utilisation of groundwater by Selangor’s industrial and commercial sectors, and the importance of managing water abstraction responsibly. Discussions also emphasised the role of reliable data, technical expertise and coordinated planning in supporting the State’s long-term water security.
Through technical presentations, sponsor highlights, an expert forum and a roundtable discussion, participants were able to raise current concerns, share professional experience and explore practical approaches to improving water-resource governance.
IGM extends its appreciation to all speakers, panellists, participating agencies, industry representatives, delegates and sponsors—Hydroaxis, Hach and PKPS—for their valuable contributions towards the success of SABPS 2026.
