Selangor Data Centre Water Seminar Advances Sustainable Water Solutions for Digital Infrastructure
The Institute of Geology Malaysia (IGM), in partnership with Digital Geoscience Global Sdn. Bhd. (DGeG) and in collaboration with Air Lestari Sdn. Bhd., successfully convened the Selangor Data Centre Water Seminar on 8 September 2026 at MAB Academy.
The seminar was officiated by Y.B. Puan Jamaliah Binti Jamaludin, Selangor State Executive Councillor for Public Health and Environment. Her presence reflected the Selangor State Government’s commitment to advancing sustainable and climate-resilient digital infrastructure.
IGM President P.Geol. Ahmad Fauzi @ Adam Hashim delivered the welcoming remarks, setting the direction for discussions on balancing Selangor’s rapid data centre growth with the need for resilient and responsible water-resource management.
The seminar highlighted several innovative approaches to strengthening water security within the data centre and industrial ecosystem:
Aquifer Thermal Energy Storage: Advancing energy- and water-efficient cooling solutions for data centres.
Smart Rainwater Harvesting Systems: Harnessing urban rainfall to support water resilience and groundwater recharge.
Groundwater Potential Assessments: Evaluating sustainable subsurface water resources to supplement conventional supplies.
Greywater Utilisation: Encouraging circular water use and reducing dependence on treated water within industrial operations.
The seminar marked an important step towards aligning Selangor’s digital expansion with its broader climate-resilience and water-security priorities. It also provided a valuable platform for government agencies, industry representatives, technical experts and geoscience professionals to exchange knowledge and explore potential areas of collaboration.
