Seminar Air Permukaan & Air Bumi Selangor (SABPS) 2025- Strengthens Integrated Water Resource Management

12 August 2025 – The Surface Water & Groundwater Seminar (SAPBS) 2025 was successfully organised at Concorde Hotel Shah Alam through the collaboration of the Department of Minerals and Geoscience Malaysia (JMG), the Selangor Water Management Authority (LUAS), the Institute of Geology Malaysia (IGM), and Digital Geoscience Global (DGeG), alongside their respective sports and welfare clubs.

The seminar was officially opened by Dr. Ir. Ts. Hj. Mohmad Asari Bin Daud, Director of LUAS, and aimed to enhance scientific understanding of the interaction between surface water and groundwater to support integrated, sustainable, and resilient water resource planning and management.

The event gathered participants from government agencies, water regulatory bodies, hydrogeological consultancies, and groundwater abstraction licence holders. Technical presentations covered the latest procedures and regulatory developments related to groundwater abstraction, including the introduction of the JMG/HY/10 Form and the Technical Letter for Groundwater Abstraction Applications (STPAAT) to improve the efficiency of application processes.

Additional presentations by LUAS focused on water resource governance and relevant legislation, while a representative from the Ministry of Health (MOH) shared insights on natural mineral water application requirements and regulatory standards.

The seminar also featured a forum on Surface Water and Groundwater Management: Issues, Challenges, and Solutions for Industry, with P. Geol. En. Rusli bin Tuan Mohamed, Director of JMG Selangor/Wilayah Persekutuan, serving as one of the panel speakers.

The closing ceremony was officiated by YBhg. P. Geol. Datuk Zamri Bin Ramli, Director General of the Department of Minerals and Geoscience Malaysia, marking the successful conclusion of a meaningful platform for knowledge sharing, collaboration, and the advancement of sustainable water resource management in Malaysia.
