Follow-up to Registration with Board of Geologists Announcement

Dear IGM Members,

This is a follow-up to the recent announcement of Institute of Geology Malaysia on the registration with Board of Geologists. Since after the announcement, many members and non-members have responded with numerous queries. The following additional information would hopefully be helpful in addressing the queries.

Many were confused with Geological Society of Malaysia (GSM), Institute of Geology Malaysia (IGM) and Board of Geologists (BoG).  Although these bodies are all for the geologists in Malaysia, they are of different entities and each has different roles and focuses. They are also each administered independently by different committees. So to avoid confusion and misunderstanding, please send enquiries and issues relating to the different bodies accordingly:

IGM:         Phone: 03-2161 1033 ext.225
BoG:    -

The Geologists Act would soon be implemented and it would be mandatory for all practising geologists to register with BoG. The prerequisite for registration is to sit for the qualifying examination. But for this initial period, Corporate IGM members whose subscriptions are not in arrears as of 15 OCT 2015 will be privileged to qualify for automatic registration with the Board of Geologists.

IGM members may enquire their membership status via email or phone as provided above during office hours.

For payment of arrears, all cheques (crossed), bank drafts, Money Orders or Postal Orders are to be made in favour of Institut Geologi Malaysia and must include sufficient clearing charges.

You may also deposit cash or cheque into IGM’s bank account (CIMB Bank Current Account Number 1440-0006703-05-8) and attach a copy of the deposit slip with an email to IGM Secretariat .

We would also appreciate if the latest contact details like your email addresses, phone numbers and postal addresses are included in the email to us for updating your details in IGM database.

For those friends who may be interested to apply for IGM membership, please advise them to go the IGM’s website  to download the membership application form. All the application details, procedure and payment are detailed in the form. Duly completed form together with the necessary payment and copies of relevant document are to send to IGM for processing:
