GSM-IGM Flagship on Geoscience to Action: Call for Private Sector Partners
The Geological Society of Malaysia and Institute of Geology Malaysia have jointly established the GSM-IGM Flagship on Geoscience to Action (G2A4DRR) to mobilise coordinated measures underpinned by science to address the risks of climate related multi-hazards. The G2A4DRR is supported by Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia’s Southeast Asia Disaster Prevention Research Initiative (SEADPRI-UKM) and University Malaya’s Geology Department. The inaugural activity was the discourse on “Disaster Risk Reduction – The Emerging Market for Geoscience Entrepreneurs?” held on 24 April 2015 at the Geology Department of University.
The current activity is to develop a Malaysian consortium comprising research institutions, government agencies and the private sector as equal partners to bid for the Newton Ungku Omar Fund for a multi-disciplinary project on “Forecasting Local Level Climate Extremes and Physical Hazards”. Malaysian geoscience consultancy firms interested in participating in the bid, with a view to expand their current portfolio of engineering geology and environmental services are invited to express their interest by providing details of theirorganisations in the enclosed table,including specific expertise and track record (maximum 300 words). Selected firms will be invited to become consortium members but ALL who respond will be invited to participate in ensuing capacity building and training workshops if the bid is successful.
Parties interested in joining the consortium are requested to complete the INFORMATION FORM and email it the Secretariat of the Geological Society of Malaysia: G2A4DRR – Attention: Ms Anna Lee () by 28 September 2015. Others can submit the form by end October 2015.
